At SDVS we offer no-cost individual and family counseling surrounding domestic violence issues, for primary and secondary victims. Numerous lives are affected by incidents of domestic violence. Beyond the perpetrator and the victim, friends and family of the victim experience secondhand effects. Those that are involved in or affected by domestic violence are more likely to be violent and repeat patterns across generations. Counseling services at SDVS are meant to help victims and to end the cycle of violence in their lives. Individual Counseling – This service is offered to victims who have experienced any form of domestic violence either in their current relationship or past ones; also including any violence that may have occurred in the immediate or extended family. Victims can meet with trained counselors to explore issues related to the abuse and violence they have experienced in order to gain information and understanding on how to break this cycle and its effects in their lives. Family Counseling – Available to victims and their families who have been affected by violence and abuse. Trained counselors will work with members of families to help them understand how everyone is affected. Counselors will help victims and their children to rebuild their lives and to readjust to living without fear. Counselors will help victims understand the impact abuse has had on their children in order for the parent to better help the children cope. Group Counseling – Groups are available for:
