Shelter

When you experience domestic violence, safety, hope and empowerment feel so far away.

Wings of Hope Family Crisis Services' local shelter provides the needed first step for women and children seeking refuge from domestic violence — safety and security. The shelter allows women and children a temporary place to recuperate while basic necessities are provided, allowing them time to pick up the pieces of their lives. Victims find a caring team ready to help them through the emotional devastation left after domestic violence. Sheltered victims learn how to take the needed steps toward empowerment and reclaiming independence from abusive partners or family members through emotional stability, finding employment, learning life skills and more. Weekly counseling and advocacy support are offered to victims during their stay. While in the shelter, women have freedom to make choices for themselves but are encouraged to participate in domestic violence and parenting support groups. An individual or family's stay in safe shelter is usually about 30 days, although the stay may be amended due to specific needs.

The safe shelter forbids violence of any kind during an individuals stay, including physical, verbal, emotional and sexual. The shelter provides an opportunity for women and children to break the cycle of violence in their home through safety, hope and empowerment.
